KIDO MINGARA NEWS

Kido Mingara Judo Academy has achieved  remarkable results in recent times with Judoka once again placing well at recent
tournaments. Neeson Naidoo also was awarded 2012 JFA Senior Boy Award at the  recent JFA Annual Awards night. Kido Mingara Judo Academy also shared the “Most  Inspiring Club” award with Zenbu Judo  Club. A summary of competition results shows the  wonderful dedication, attitude and hard work put in both on the part of the  students and the coaching staff.
2012  Country Championships at Nowra

Neeson Naidoo – Gold –Neeson had 2 fights  and won both fights by Ippon, showing once again the variation in attack that he  has been working so hard on.
Neeson’s 1st fight was won with Tsuri Komi Goshi and the 2nd  with Uchi Mata (his favourite).
Kasiea Naidoo – Silver – Kasiea had 3  fights, losing her 1st fight by Osae Komi Waza and then going on the  win her next 2 fights by Osae Komi Waza. An excellent result for Kasiea and her  confidence is building more with each   fight.
Daniel Villani – Gold –  Daniel had 4 fights, winning all by  Ippon. Daniel is becoming very proficient in counter techniques as evidenced by  his wins with Ura Nage.

2012  SOUTH COAST OPEN
Neeson Naidoo had 6 fights, winning all but  1. Once again, Neeson showed great variety in attack, winning by a variety of  hold downs and leg/hand throws. As the fights went on and the quality of his  opponents increased, Neeson held his own, winning his first 3 fights by Ippon  the the last 2 by Waza Ari.
Kasiea Naidoo – Silver – Kasiea once again  was a little slow to start but once she“warmed up” showed her ability. Kasiea  lost her 1st fight on a hold down but went through to win her next 2  fights by hold downs. It is becoming apparent that this will be her forte. The  coaching staff will have to put some focus into her standing work, thereby  giving her a greater range of techniques to  use. Once again an excellent  result.
Daniel Villani – Gold –  Daniel had 5 fights, winning all by Ippon.

JFA  NSW Annual Awards
Kido Mingara Judo Academy more than  acquitted itself with 2 awards on the night. Firstly, Neeson Naidoo won the  Senior Boys Award. The effort that Neeson is putting into his Judo has been  recognised and the award is a sign that he is being  noticed.
Kido Mingara also won the Most Inspiring  Club, sharing the award with Zenbu Judo Club. A mix of “old” and “new” here as  Kido Mingara is a long established club with Zenbu being relatively new. Well  done to both clubs.

2012  November Challenge
Kido Mingara had 3 Judoka compete with a  good result once again.
Neeson Naidoo – Gold – Neeson again fought  very well to take out Gold, winning his fights by Ippon. A variety of attacks  once again put Neeson into 1stplace.
Daniel Villani – Silver – Daniel won his  first 3 fights all by Ippon, however a momentary lapse in bout 4 saw Daniel  countered, losing by Ippon.
4  GOLD MEDALS for TUGGERAH’s KIDO JUDO DOJO at the NSW INTERNATIONAL  OPEN  CHAMPIONSHIPS

 5] participants  brought back 6 medals (4 Gold  +  2 Bronze)
Summary:
Caroline  HAIN   Cadet  u/17,  Young Women  u/20 ,Senior Women Gold
Neeson NAIDOO    Junior u/14 Gold
Kasiea NAIDOO    Junior u/14,Bronze
Daniel VILLANI  Junior u/12 Bronze
Angelina   YOKOYAMA      Jnr   Olympic trial    2nd
The Championships, held in Blacktown, enjoyed participating  teams from   all States,  Northern Territory, as well as New Zealand.  It is an important“National Points
tournament for the players that are seeking selection for 2013 International  events.
Caroline   HAIN  dominated   the u/48kg division in all age categories by winning an impressive 3 Gold  medals and impressed her coaches by powering through with her unusual and relentless attacking style + variety of trowing techniques.   She was the stand out player of the tournament and her result were
acknowledged by the selectors by her receiving the female "Rising  Star" trophy.
Caroline is training at the Australian Institute of Sport during  the School break in preparation for the Oceania Judo Union Continental
Championship in Samoa. Kido Mingara  has Caroline and Liam Yokoyama as their selected representatives
for this event; which counts towards Commonwealth Games  selection.
Neeson   NAIDOO  maintained his dominance with his  attacking style.   His aim was  to improve on last years minor medal. He again showed his solid Judo skills ver
his opponents in the u/55kg division by winning Gold and impressed  the coaches by powering through with fast ashi [foot sweep]combinations to  textbook shoulder throws and uchimata.
Angelina Yokoyama went up  in the52kg division to vie for a spot on the Youth Olympic Trial event scheduled  for early next year.  She had a  challenging time with some difficult bouts but her take back throws, solid,  groundwork and mature command of submission techniques defence secured her  theSilver medal.
Kasiea  NAIDOO,  is showing marked improvement in major NSW events throwing with her seoitosh  [shoulder throw] and combinations to finish with ground holding technique for a  well deserved Bronze medal.
Daniel   VILLANI  dominated his u/12 division but was harshly judged by the referees on the  execution of an uranage [sacrifice throw] that he initiated to loose one bout  and had to settle for a Bronze medal.   It was a near repeat of the previous year at this event, where  the referees reversed their own decision on his throw in the finals.   For a 10yr old he is philosophical   “I know that I can beat the players, that is most important for  me”.
Judging  from these results all Kido players are having a good lead up towards next years  selection trials.

8 NATIONAL Medals  1 GOLD , 2 SILVER+ 5 BRONZE

June 30 2012
Tuggerah KIDO-MINGARA JUDO ACADEMY with 8 NATIONAL Medals 1 GOLD , 2 SILVER+ 5 BRONZE

The WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong, NSW was the venue for this year Australian Judo Titles.  Over 600 players of the best  ‘Judoka’ in the Junior and Senior divisions from every State as well as visiting International athletes competed over the long weekend, displaying their skills and entertained the public with spirited bouts. Judo NSW covered the event live on Internet TV on all 3 mats.

Seven (7) players from the TUGGERAH’s KIDO-MINGARA JUDO ACADEMY wore the NSW blues to represent the State, several testing their skills in older age divisions and for one it was the first time.

At 16 and already his fifth national LIAM YOKOYAMA, re-confirm his dominance in the 60kg junior men u/19 division by adding another GOLD medal to his collection. He has made a cleen sweep this year not losing any bouts, combined with a good draw, gave him the confidence to also do well in the Senior men.   After a spirited start and winning with technically showcase throws Liam was relegated to the repechage rounds.  He came in too loose and relaxed on his VIC opponent of similar speed and style, who took the opportunity to convert the error into a winning throw. Liam had to settle for a BRONZE and it signals a start of many interesting future encounters.

His sister Angelina YOKOYAMA, from Bonnels Bay, was unable to make her designated weight 48kg division but did remarkably well to win bouts in the heavier 52kg cadets.  At the end of the day KIDO had two Yokoyama’s on the podium during the nationals because Angelina fought strongly through the repechage rounds to win a BRONZE.

Also at 16, Carolin Hain, a previous Junior medallist, after missing last years Championship due to injury, was keen to re-establish her position of the 48kg division.  Attempting this year in 3 categories -the u/17 cadet; u/19 and Senior women.  She had honed her skills with consistent training at the Tuggerah Academy, and applied them with confidence. Caroline again made it a positive experience representing Kido and NSW with distinction by winning 2 medals. A BRONZE in the cadets and with her overwhelming bursts of energy overpowered all but one of her opponents to capture the SILVER medal in the u/19 women.

In the U/16 Senior Boy Neeson NAIDOO from Watanobbi, for whom this was his 2nd appearance at a junior Nationals, had prepared thoroughly, training every day giving himself the best possible chance to do well. His improvement was apparent from his first bout where he threw for ippon [full point] with uchimata.  He continued through one of the largest division of 25 players in that style to reach the finals, winning all bouts by throwing for ‘ippon’ full points.   In the final Neeson encountered a strong WA opponent who was able to counter one of his attacks for a minor score.  By losing narrowly in the finals meant Neeson had to settle for SILVER but it also provided a skill development list for next year. His sister Kassiea NAIDOO performed strong for her first time at a national, being just out of the medals, but gained valuable experience .

Junior women 52Kg - Melinda BROWN  had an interrupted training preparation which sapped her fitness this year. She relied heavily on her smooth transition to groundwork and submission techniques, which are extremely strong and produced wins.  Melinda performed with her innate strong determination and focus, achieving a BRONZE Medal.  She now will intensify her specific training to work on tachi waza [throws] in Japan to prepare for next year.

In the U/12 Junior Boys, Daniel VILLANI secured his first National BRONZE Medal in spirited bouts in the u/34kg division.  He fought first with the ACT player and won with full point (ippon] with a combination.  In the second encounter Daniel was for the first time exposed to tactics that, unfortunately by the time he adapted, cost him the bout and which relegated him to the repechage rounds. With his losing this bout to the eventual champion, quickly regained his form by winning with skilful throws. Going through to his first medal with full point scores, was a positive experience and by easily re-focusing after a setback, will serve him well in the future.

Coaching director, Pete Acciari, emphasized the clubs main aim is to attain the maximum potential from each student and help them find their “inner strength“

2 GOLD for Tuggerah Judo Academy Kido Mingara
Juniors

Two Junior players from the Kido Mingara Judo Academy who have  performed solidly in State selection trials and various state competitions this
year, used last weekend at the Blacktown PCYC as a training preparation for next  months Sydney  International  (22-23 Sep)    Winninggold in the U12, division 10 yr old DANIEL  VILLANI’s improvement was apparent from   his first bout where he threw with a terrifically timed foot sweep that lifted   his opponent chest high.  He showed a tremendous command of skills for someone so young,  executing left or   right techniques on the coach’s request, then finishing with strong  groundwork.   Daniel is in top form  for next weeks Illawarra  International Junior Championship.   13 year old Kasiea Naidoo, (WYONG]   had overcome her nerves and found her form, putting her new found throwing   skills to devastating use. She destroyed all of her opponents with precision  ‘ippon’ full point winning throws at will in the under-15s. She easily won gold in her 52kg weight   division.  “It was her best  performance to date” Coach Pete Acciari said “she trains hard and will be ready  for good results at next years  Nationals”. KIDO is planning to enter   Junior Team events and is recruiting to develop an u/10, u/12 and u/15  Junior Girls team from the ground up with that in  mind.  The  competition preparation to score National points for overseas selection is in  full swing at the Academy taking various forms   National team members, Melinda Brown, Liam and Angelina Yokoyama  are training in Japan.  15 year old  Angelina will finish her preparation in the Philippines and then meet up with  the full KIDO group in Victoria at Southern  Cross International and next months Sydney International  Open.
