About Us The Academy was formed December 1987 in the name of - KIDO JUDO ACADEMY and in 1996 amended to include the sponsor's name- KIDO-MINGARA JUDO ACADEMY by Founder and Head coach, Sensei Pete Acciari (Former Jnr & Snr National Coach, High Performance Manager ( Olympic Athlete Program ), NCAS III - Judo & NCAS I Wrestling coach).
The permanent purpose built dojo is state of the art, boasting an Olympic size mat area on a sprung floor. All the necessary training aids normally found at State squad level are provided with instructions by internationally experienced coaches.
The local talent pool of children has exceeded all our expectations, with unprecedented successes in the females as well. In the past very dedicated groups trained 3 times a week and had carried our colours on State & Australian Teams.
The Academy's coaches takes pride in developing some of the youngsters to the Jnr/Snr Elite level, boasting National, Oceania, Pacific Rim, Commonwealth Games and International Open Medals. Some of the elite are profiled in the champions sections of the web. Martin Kelly, Tammy Acciari, Chad Acciari, and Colin Gibbon were on the 2000 Olympic shadow team and World reps; they plus Dylan Hopkins, Katrina Campbell, Amanda Dittel and Shannon Langley Oceania Medallists. Many now assist in the coaching and bestow their overseas-acquired skills on the local junior members.
The Academy has restructured to focus on the development of Juniors since 2000 and is building up a strong u/16 group of players. To develop Judo both socially and as a sport, giving members the inherent gymnastic and martial arts skills required to excel. To encourage, train and support those talented and willing enough to make the necessary sacrifices to achieve their full potential.
JUNIOR CLASS Head Coach and Founder of Kido Mingara Judo Academy, Pete Acciari, has provided the following advice especially aimed at juniors contemplating Judo as a sport. The coaching aims cover a broad field in our Judo classes and considers a broad spectrum of traits including:
Punctuality, attitude, attendance, commitment, enthusiasm, sympathy to others, follow directions, perseverance, attention span, friendliness, motivation to help develop top quality sports persons and bring out the best in each player.
The by-product can be measured in numerous areas of achievement such as self-confidence + self-motivation, discipline, progress in skill acquisition, event results, and improvement in the above character building traits.
In the 1.5 - 2hr. available to address all of these areas and make an impact is a tall order, but over time ( measured in terms of years ) there usually is an observable change for those who have maintained a regular training schedule and persevered with the sport. Judo is an ideal vehicle to deliver results incorporating fitness and physical skill improvement.
Best results and overall positive changes have generally depended on adherence to the traits mentioned above and the assistance by supportive parents to establish a solid base. It is the aim of the classes to further build on to this base and develop the youngsters to the highest level of their inherent achievable potential.
For those that wish to excel in the competitive area of the sport there are a host of qualified coaches with international experience that will take the players under their wing. Although the Academy's results can speak for themselves in both Junior and senior categories (over 50 State + 23 National Champions) the trophies, placing's and awards in this area are acknowledged but de-emphasised for juniors with focus being given to skill and character development.
In all cases, the Kido-Mingara Coaching Panel members are committed to a fair and safe training environment and to obtain the maximum potential from each individual. This may vary and can be measured by reaching Local, State or National level or simply a competent Social level of Judo skills.
