Introduction
The Academy was formed December 1987 in the name of - KIDO JUDO ACADEMY and in 1996 amended to include the sponsor's name– KIDO-MINGARA JUDO ACADEMY by Founder and Head coach, Sensei Pete Acciari (Former Jnr & Snr National Coach, High Performance Manager ( Olympic Athlete Program ), Nidan, NCAS III – Judo & NCAS I Wrestling coach).

 Dojo

The permanent purpose built dojo is state of the art, boasting an Olympic size mat area on a sprung floor. All the necessary training aids normally only found at State squad level are provided with instructions by internationally experienced coaches.

 General

The local talent pool of children has exceeded all our expectations, with unprecedented successes in the females. In the past very dedicated groups trained 3 times a week and had carried our colours on State and National Teams.

The Academy's coaches takes pride in developing some of the youngsters to the Jnr/Snr Elite level, boasting National, Oceania, Pacific Rim, Commonwealth Games and International Open Medals. Some of the elite are profiled in the champions sections of the web. Martin Kelly, Tammy Acciari, Chad Acciari, and Colin Gibbon were on the 2000 Olympic shadow team and World reps; they plus Dylan Hopkins, Katrina Campbell, Amanda Dittel and Shannon Langley Oceania Medallists. Many now assist in the coaching and bestow their overseas-acquired skills on the local junior members.

The Academy has restructured to focus on the development of Juniors since 2000 and is building up a strong u/16 group of players.

 Highlights

1992 conducted its first overseas tour to the Jnr International Open in Miami taking 5 medals. Visiting Cape Canaveral, Disney World and other Historic sites on the return, thus combining sport and encouraging associated learning.

1994 KIDO established an annual Judo Sport Exchange Program with several Jnr & High schools in Tanabe. (Wyong's' sister city) and led by H. Furukawa, Satake & Tanimoto Sensei's in the Wakayama prefecture which was active for 10 years.

1999-2001 Pete Acciari piloted a program at Hopetown , Wyong giving individual tuition to disadvantaged and handicapped students.   According to Deputy Principal, Terry Taylor, it proved to be an outstanding success. The aim was not only to pass Judo skills on and develop their agility, strength and flexibility; but also to use it as a vehicle to promote discipline, cooperation, and the ability to accept a loss or win, all valuable lessons of life. 2001, Terry himself an ex Judo exponent was mentored to be able to continue the program ‘in house'; he knows the inherent values of the sport and is keen to expose those in his charge to the activity. 

2000 The Belgian Olympic Team utilised the gym as their pre-Olympic training venue. Kido has hosted numerous teams from Japan, N. Zealand, Samoa and World level players from Germany, UK, Korea, and Israel.
